Alkali-Activated Hybrid Cement from Mineral Wool Fiber Waste and OPC

نویسندگان

چکیده

Cements to replace ordinary portland cement (OPC) are currently being studied due the high environmental costs of OPC production. One viable alternative is alkali-activated cements, which can be made from pozzolanic materials such as stone wool fiber waste (SW). At present, SW most used insulation material in world, and disposal recycling it an challenge its fibrous nature low density. In present work, (AAC) hybrid (AAHC) were obtained alkaline activation SW. The unconfined compressive strength (UCS) AAC AAHC was evaluated. After 28 days curing at room temperature, maximum UCS reached 6.7 MPa for samples without addition 12.3 those with OPC. addition, reaction products identified all combinations through XRD SEM-EDS. results promising they show a industrial product has reduced carbon footprint.

Hybrid alkali-hydrodynamic disintegration of waste-activated sludge before two-stage anaerobic digestion process

The first step of anaerobic digestion, the hydrolysis, is regarded as the rate-limiting step in the degradation of complex organic compounds, such as waste-activated sludge (WAS). The aim of lab-scale experiments was to pre-hydrolyze the sludge by means of low intensive alkaline sludge conditioning before applying hydrodynamic disintegration, as the pre-treatment procedure. Application of both ...

(Micro)-structural comparison between geopolymers, alkali-activated slag cement and Portland cement

Concurrently to research conducted on ordinary Portland cement (PC), new types of binders were developed during the last decades. These are formed by alkali-activation of metakaolin or ground-granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) and are named, respectively, geopolymers (GP) or alkali-activated slag (AAS). Four different cementitious materials were synthesised: PC, AAS, GP, and a mix GP-AAS and...

Utilization of Mineral Wools as Alkali-Activated Material Precursor

Mineral wools are the most common insulation materials in buildings worldwide. However, mineral wool waste is often considered unrecyclable because of its fibrous nature and low density. In this paper, rock wool (RW) and glass wool (GW) were studied as alkali-activated material precursors without any additional co-binders. Both mineral wools were pulverized by a vibratory disc mill in order to ...

Activated Carbon Fiber - the Hybrid of Carbon Fiber and Activated Carbon

From application perspectives in adsorption, activated carbon fiber (ACF) is by far one of the most important carbon nanoporous materials to be considered. It has great advantages over other commercial porous storage materials. Activated carbon fiber (ACF) is a promising microporous material with a fiber shape and well-defined porous structure. In general, production of ACF can be commercially ...

Effects of High Temperature on Carbonated Calcium Silicate Cement (CSC) and Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) Paste

This paper presents a comparative study on the effects of high temperature (~500°C) on carbonated calcium silicate-based cement (CSC), hydrated ordinary Portland cement (OPC), and hydrated OPC with 20% fly ash (FA) paste samples. The CSC is primarily composed of calcium–silicate minerals with different calcium to silica atomic ratios, such as wollastonite, rankinite, and pseudowollastonite. The...
